Police officers are typically not trained to use a firearm to injure people. By law, a firearm in the police arsenal is considered lethal force only and using it to intentionally maim someone can be taken to court as a malicious wounding incident, leaving the officer liable. I could not see if these officers were armed with tasers or not, but a man with a knife typically within 21 feet has a good chance of severely injuring you before you can take him down with an effective shot. It's some scary stuff. I do believe a better policy might have been to have one officer with taser drawn and another with his firearm. If the first couldnt stop the advance, then lethal force could be applied. Again though, I couldnt see if they had tasers.

Just remember Oswald. The police began pointing guns and firing flash grenades at the reporters that were on scene of the protests in Ferguson Missouri. Why would you want the cameras gone if you had nothing to hide? It's not the protesters it's the police that are extremely corrupt in Ferguson. In this case, if the guy actually had a knife while he was advancing towards the police, then they rightfully shot him. Obviously the additional 5 shots that were fired after he was on the ground was not necessary though. Michael Brown was unarmed. |
