Re: Japanese Student Suicide Pact
Love that they choose to die in their bare feet. Such an image of Lost Innocence.

Re: Japanese Student Suicide Pact
We're likely jaded being here on this website and being markedly older than them in all likelihood, but for a moment stop and think about growing up in this day and age. So called technology and social media don't cause problems, per se, but rather filter them into new ways that we have to deal with. Just 20 years ago, young people their age didn't have to potentially worry about their definitionally naive takes, perspectives, opinions, love interests, etc. being permanently documented online. Then add to that the further atomistic individualism and false sense of belonging that social media can foster. This can add additional, real social pressure. We are social beings after all and those formative years hold powerful sway when you're in their grip. I have a niece about their age and when I visit am always checking in to see how she's doing in school, with her friends, and social media. She's a good head on her shoulders but I fear that she may get swept up in such as it's so accessible nowadays. |
