Re: Japanese Man Killed Himself by Jumping Off Tokyo Building
Back on one of my deployments in Japan, someone on my crew lost his camera and bag on the subway.. The following day someone returned the camera and bag to the ships quarterdeck.. Fortunately, he had contact info to get his gear back... For me, it was the integrity of the personnel in Japan who got it back to him is what's phenomenal |

Re: Japanese Man Killed Himself by Jumping Off Tokyo Building
A buddy of mine got lost by taking the wrong train. He was in a somewhat rural area so nobody spoke English. He showed a guy his hotel room key. The dude walked him to a train and got on with him. Took a couple transfers and quite some time later, but they got off the train and walked right to his hotel. Dude waved by by and went back home!

Re: Japanese Man Killed Himself by Jumping Off Tokyo Building
FYI since everyone here is an expert in Japan; I live here and to address one part of this that hasn't been beaten to death yet is why you don't see this very often and that's because this guy was extremely rude and/or crazy. Typically, the reason why Japanese people go out into the forest is because its often seen as the least inconvenient place to kill yourself. The fact that this guy did this out in public means he wasn't following societal protocol...but from what little I bothered to read about it, he probably wasn't a great citizen as it was prior to the fall. In any case, that's why you don't see a lot of Japan-sourced material on DR...because even in death, they're considerate (with few exceptions).
