The attack took place near a McDonald’s inside Beersheba’s central bus station terminal.

The man behind the attack was identified as Ahmad Al-Uqbi, 29, an Arab Palestinian man who holds Israeli citizenship, and has a criminal record.

Al-Uqbi comes from a Bedouin village near the town of Lakiya in the northern Negev region of Israel.

Besides the assailant, an Eritrean national mistaken by Israeli forces to be taking part in the attack was also shot and killed, media noted.

Unconfirmed Hebrew media reports suggest a familial connection to Muhanad Alukabi, who was responsible for a similar shooting attack at the same bus station in October 2015, which resulted in one soldier's death and the fatal shooting of an Eritrean national mistaken for an attacker.
