Industrial Demolition Worker Killed when Lime Kiln Structure Collapses
Mexico. On Wednesday, July 22, at the industrial facilities of Calimsa, Elías H. B, 34, was high up participating in the dismantling of an old, large lime kiln structure when a metal support beam suddenly fractured and collapsed. Because the structure itself broke apart, it gave him no chance to secure himself, dragging him down into a severe fall of roughly 30 to 45 meters. He was rushed to the hospital where he tragically passed away from his injuries hours later. |

...the far end, opposite from where they were cutting, is what fell away first. so like the description says, "a metal support beam suddenly fractured and collapsed"...it probably would have still fallen whether the men were up there at that moment cutting, or not.

Re: Industrial Demolition Worker Killed when Lime Kiln Structure Collapses
They've already demolished part of that structure, you can see it lying on the ground at the bottom left, part of a conveyor system. The only thing keeping the rest of it together was that anchor point at the top of the tower. That A-frame the slanting girder is pressing against, I'm guessing they planned on it folding outwards once they'd cut the top trusses. But either they didn't realise the cap beneath it, the piece they were standing on, was attached to it in more than one place, or it collapsed before they'd made the final cut. Too rusty and decrepit to safely anticipate how it would behave imo.
