No such thing as 100,000 kv, it would be 1100 kv which is still higher than anything we use in North America

Absolutely correct. I think that was a potential error. Other reporting says the line was 11kV, which is much more likely. https://www.hindustantimes.com/citie...951294720.html My research suggests that medium voltage distribution (substations to distribution transformers close to customers) are mostly 11kV in India and those lines are sometimes carried on ordinary poles, which would be within reach of the careless truck driver. I guess the driver was shocked to discover that a line so close to the ground would curry such a high voltage. Under Indian Electrical Regulations a bare conductor must be no closer than 5.8m to the ground if running along a street or no closer than 6.1m to the ground if running across a street. (But, in my opinion, they should not be allowed to be out in public with no clothes on in the first place.) The above news report claims that the lines did meet those regulations: |
