The dog seemed to be the only creature that recognised something was off. It almost could have intervened, but has likely spent most of its life since weaning dodging one well aimed flip flop or the other.

You literally see someone that wanted to help, but was held back from doing so. There were almost a dozen people at the beginning. Then they strolled, not ran, off. Didn't even stay to watch. Film. Nothing. This goes beyond the bystander effect. These were the sauntering spectators. |
