Indian Security Guard Is Crushed to Death by Falling Gate
Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India A 55-year-old security guard, Vikram S., died after being crushed by a sliding gate at an apartment complex. Vikram, who had been working the night shift, remained trapped beneath the gate, which had an estimated weight of 600kg, for approximately three hours until a teacher discovered his body in the morning. Vikram's son accused the apartment management of negligence, stating that his father had been working at the apartment complex for four to five days. A security guard who had worked there previously had also pointed out the need to repair the sliding gate, but it was never fixed. Investigations found that the gate's slide stopper had worn down. Furthermore, the stopper clamp rod, intended to be secured to the wall, was never installed. When the sliding gate was pulled with a sudden force, it moved past the worn-out stopper, causing it to collapse. Vikram's family reached a settlement with the apartment management, agreeing to a compensation amount of one lakh rupees ($1,050). |

Really makes you wonder about the value of human life. Here in the US, thatd be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and over there is barely enough to buy groceries for a month and a half.
