In Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh state, 35-year-old Devendra was fatally electrocuted when the long bamboo stick he was walking with touched an overhead high-voltage electricity line passing over his relative's house. Family members attempted to assist Devendra by rubbing his hands and feet, but it didn't work and Devendra perished.

The family were preparing to go to a temple for a religious programme involving Devendra's cousin, and Devendra had brought the bamboo stick so he could tie a flag on top of it. As it had been recently raining, the bamboo stick was wet.

Devendra’s relatives have stated that they had complained about the high-voltage electricity wire passing above their house, but the local authority did not take any action.
