Gudda Patel is a convicted murderer who had previously slit his own wife's throat in 2008.

He had served roughly 14 years in prison and was released in January 2026, just weeks before this attack.

Since his arrest, Patel has shown no remorse. While in a lockup, he reportedly told jailers that teenage boys are very bad and always trouble him.

The victim's family is demanding the death penalty. Local authorities are also investigating why a known violent offender was released without closer supervision.

Following the attack, the accused fled toward nearby agricultural fields carrying the hammer, said villagers, who watched the horrific events unfold.

They informed the Dehat police, which rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The accused was later found hiding in the fields.

During the operation, he allegedly tried to threaten villagers and police personnel, flashing his weapon. However, as he dropped the weapon, locals pounced on him. He was soon overpowered and handed over to the police.
