Sorry to burst your bubble but here's the reason:

When the brain is obliterated or disconnected from the spinal chord, the reflexes originated from the spinal chord are no longer being overriden by the brain and it takes over driving the limbs into posturing or twitches.

It's very likely the guy felt nothing.
