She started to drive away with the officer still holding on to the door handle. I don't know what instructions he was giving her. But it looked like - and this is my reaction watching the main video only once - the officer in front saw the car start to accelerate forward pulling the officer on the side and he shot her.... Tragic all around. These people hate ICE/the agent in the front made a quick call and fired his gun. 59 ICE involved shootings have happened since 2015. Perhaps we should have reported on more of these sooner?

Casual Lurker here but seeing a lot of hot takes.

FWIW, the potential legal case against the ICE agent who fired the shots rides on whether he felt in fear for his life and took reasonable force to stop the threat. Unless there's clear evidence the shooting was premeditated such as a verbal or written statement I doubt they'll pursue a charge albeit maybe for a political statement.

There's plenty of blame to go around. Several news articles state the shooting victim was impeding traffic, potentially in protest or to hinder ICE. From the video it looks like at the time of impact, 3 or more officers surrounded her vehicle to when one tries to unlock her door to either detain or force her to turn off the engine. The lady panics and starts to accelerate while an ICE agent was in front of her driver side headlamp. She isn't trying to run over the agent because she's cutting the wheel away from him as he fires from a foot away.

Does she deserve to be killed for a spur the moment fight or flight reaction? No. Should she have put herself in that situation? Also No. Fight those battle in court and not on the streets FFS.

I'm watching both videos trying to understand why - and she is not emerging from an intersection but rather what seems like a parked space - she felt the need to turn into the traffic at all in what appears to be a very agitated state of surroundings. She could've have been gesturing "it's okay, go around me" or she could've been gesturing "try it, try to go around me". I'm not going to judge. There have been 59 ICE involved shootings since 2015. This is tragic and maybe we should've known about more shooting incidents sooner?

Some of you people are very unhinged. ICE agents definitely shouldn't be in any major city. Anything they can do, the police can do better. In my opinion, it seems pretty clear that the woman was trying to avoid the person and just drive away. These people wear masks for a reason, and they know exactly what that reason is. Has there ever been a point in modern-America where the president of the country deployed masked "soldiers" in cities? What does ICE even do besides stand around anyway? Any criminal isn't going to commit a crime if they see an ICE agent in their peripheral anyway.
