ICE are federal agents, they can indeed arrest US citizens if they are impeding an investigation or committing other felonies in their presence. I'm not sure why it's being circulated that ICE can't touch US citizens for any reason, that is definitely not true.

ICE agents—specifically those in the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) division—are sworn federal law enforcement officers (Series 1811). In this capacity, they do have authority over U.S. citizens:

Criminal Offenses: HSI special agents can arrest U.S. citizens for violations of federal laws, including human trafficking, narcotics smuggling, cybercrime, and financial fraud.
Obstruction and Assault: ICE agents can arrest anyone, including citizens, who interferes with their duties, assaults an officer, or commits a federal crime in their presence.
Warrant Execution: When executing a judicial criminal warrant signed by a judge, ICE has the same entry and arrest powers as the FBI or DEA.

We went over this. It's because it is not a part of their specific mandate. And their specific mandate is easy to find when researching ICE and a couple of lines of code for Federal Law Enforcement are less easily accessible if you are specifically looking for info on ICE.

Arresting US citizens is not part of their job. It is not intended to be part of their daily routine. It is not what they are specifically trained for.

As you addressed yesterday, they have the same broad authority as any Federal Law Enforcement Officer in that they are able to detain or make arrests for FEDERAL crimes, which includes Obstruction if it interferes directly with the duty they are conducting.

Their power is nowhere near unlimited. There are MANY crimes that they are legally powerless to enforce. They cannot, for example, use their 'authority' to arrest you for shoplifting. Or drinking in public, or punching a guy in a bar fight.

If Renee Good blocking part of a traffic lane (even though the video CLEARLY shows that other full-sized vehicles were getting through in front of her and she can clearly be seen in the video waving one of the ICE vehicles to go around her) was SO EFFECTIVE at preventing ICE from doing the specific 'arrest' they were allegedly conducting that her blocking part of a lane constituted Federal Obstruction of Justice, then they were within their legal authority to disperse or detain her.

I think that'll get shredded in court, tbh. There is abundant evidence that they were physically able to move past her and conduct their business further along. That's not for me to say. You can bet the Prosecutor will bring it up, though.
