If I'm not mistaken crocs hardly ever kill their prey by eating them while still alive. Instead they pull their prey below the surface to drown it, and only then will they start to devour their tasty little happy meal.

Yes, that's right, and sometimes they don't eat their victims right away but stuff them somewhere for a future meal. There is a fascinating survival story of a man in Florida who was dragged under by a croc and given the "death roll". He went limp and faked being dead while holding his breath (He was a swimmer/diver and could do this for a long time.) Figuring him for dead the croc then stuffed him under a bank for a future meal. After a safe interval the man walked away. One disappointed croc.
