It's not just Islam, it's the "honor" system and the entire decayed, archaic culture of Iran that allows this sort of crap to happen. Parents feel as if their children are direct images of them.

For example, if you bring friends to a gathering, and one friend upsets the host, then you bear the shame for what your friend did. There's no sense of boundaries or individual decisions. This is even more pronounced in families, especially with regards to daughters.
