Imagine the reality of the situation - that killer will now probably end up dying in jail

Re: Hong Kong - Dude Dies During Fight

I might be incredibly stupid but if the windpipe is crushed doesn't it flex back to its original position? Is it cartilage or something so it "breaks"?

How I visualize it:

So here’s the breakdown of injuries to the windpipe/larynx.

Laryngeal fractures can be classified into 4 groups:

Group 1 includes minor injuries with only mild respiratory symptoms.
Group 2 is moderate injuries with a degree of airway compromise and minor mucosal disruption.
Groups 3 & 4 are the most serious injuries with severe airway compromise, massive swelling, cartilage exposure, mucosal tears, and vocal cord immobility. The difference between groups 3 & 4 is in treatment.
Group 4 injuries require a stent to open the airway.

So, yes, my guess is that the one guy wrapped his arm around the other person’s neck and crushed his windpipe to the point he wasn’t able to breathe. That would also cause some blood flow compounding the breathing problems.

How I visualize it:

No, if you crush the windpipe, it STAYS crushed. On an antique car tour, a guy ran a friends car off the road, smashed his face onto the steering wheel, and was dying from a compressed throat. Luckily, another antique car tourer was on scene, and was a doctor, and did an emergency tracheotomy with a pen knife, so the guy could breathe again, thus saving his life. However, both of his eye sockets were damaged as well, and he wound up blinded. The car, having flipped end over end twice (dumping the afore-mentioned individual after the first impact) was completely hammered. I have pics of the car, which I will post if I ever learn how. I still see the guy at some antique car meets occasionally. He still collects and trades antique car parts, but has a family member who helps him run the business.

Never mind! Mr. NoCredit gave a much more coherent analysis of throat injuries than my fireside narrative!

5 Corns for good information. Thanks!

Re: Hong Kong - Dude Dies During Fight

I bet it was a freak thing where the guy tore his aorta when he yanking on his head. Same way chiropractors have caused fatal aorta tears. The injured guy reached up for his neck. If it was a fatal break I don’t think he’d have any mobility.

Re: Hong Kong - Dude Dies During Fight

What a moron. CPR on a person who was at least momentarily conscious, and holding his throat…
