My thoughts exactly. IED came to my mind the first time I saw the video. Note that they are already sewing him up (without benefit of pain killers methinks.) Makes me think that maybe they feel that he is going to live. My experience with people who have been in really bad accidents sure don't look as bad a few months later. He looks like hamburger now but the body's ability to heal is amazing.
