Re: He Jumped from a Burning Highrise

It is an unforgiving endeavor. He just caught a bad break. He was probably already burned from the radiant heat and I'm sure that hurt like hell, which made it difficult to make that lower balconey.

What is scary is how fast unsprinklered living spaces flash over now due to the bulk of everything made out of petroleum products. Firefighters up until the early 80s could go in and eat smoke. Back then things were made from wood, cotton, and other natural fibers. They don't burn as hot nor as fast. Flashover, the stage of a fire when everything ignites at once, would happen 15 to 20 minutes after ignition.
Now it is as little as two minutes. The fires burn faster, hotter, and the smoke is more toxic. We are going to see a rapid spike in fire fatalities from now just going up and up. It was 2003 when 100 people burned to death at the Great White Concert at the Station Nightclub Fire in Rhode Island. We just lost 33 in that diving excursion boat fire off the coast of California. Fires typically need five or more fatalities to be national news in the U.S. so you don't hear about all the fire fatalities unless it is local news.

I'll jump versus being cooked to death
Hmmm, I don't know about that Doc

I think you would fit perfectly into my industrial smoker ……. and when basted in your own juices, and served with some fava beans (and a nice Chianti) you'd probably taste delightful to some of our "pigmentally enhanced brethren" in parts of sub-Saharan Afreeka.

That crowd and reaction is rarely seen. Genuine emotion and empathy for those burning (or jumping) to their deaths. Bravo unknown carers, bravo.
Where's your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man when you really need him ?

Re: He Jumped from a Burning Highrise

I worked for a gas utility for much of my adult life. I bet someone had their gas cut off for non-payment, and they thought they could steal it. Happens often.
