This is classic agonal breathing, if you ever wanted to know about such a thing. This is not real breathing; the person here is, for all intents and purposes, already dead--at the very least, unconscious. So for anyone worried about his "suffering", don't; he's not home anymore, even if it looks like the lights might be on. This weird, gasping, muscle-twitching kind of breathing is not effective breathing the way we think of breathing. It's more like a reflex and indicates damage to certain parts of the brain.
