Da hell happened then?

Did he hit the water so hard that he severed some vital connection, became partially paralyzed, and was unable to swim? That was bizarre.

Yes. He was knocked out cold from the impact. When he finally regained consciousness he was hurt badly and couldnt swim. Thats what happens when you hit water at 200km/hr

After 3 seconds of freefalling you would be moving at about 105km/hr. And then stopping completely in a fraction of a second when hitting the water. This guy was falling for about 2.75 seconds.
