Re: ~Guy Gets Run Over By His Own Truck~

Talk about perfect timing . Was that a string the strange tripped over ? Almost immediately as he turns to walk away the truck rolls over the guy

Re: ~Guy Gets Run Over By His Own Truck~

The starter is in the engine compartment.

Guys I wasn’t offering my opinion. I am correct.
E-brake Theory Debunked

Sorry to break it to OJ, because he has such huge self-confidence, but nope, the motor caused the lurch.

Look carefully at the vid. Play it several times. See this:
1. During lurch, the front suspension lifted upward (like a wheelie action).
2. The bulk of the brick load is between the axles (not behind the rear axle).
3. None of the bricks shifted prior to the lurch.

Using laws of physics, the release of an e-brake would not exert any force that would lift the front upward. If the brick load caused any uplift, the bulk of the bricks would have to fall onto the bed behind the rear axle. The truck was sitting still before the lurch, so only a dynamic force could cause the lurch. Release of an e-brake is not a dynamic force.

As several DR posters already pointed out, only a motor driving the rear wheels could cause the truck to lurch as seen in the vid.

Here is what probably happened. The driver had the truck running in low gear, and the drivetrain linkage was slipping, so truck would not move. The puzzled driver got out to figure why the truck was not moving. Probably the load of bricks deflected and lengthened the wheelbase, which caused the linkage to separate. On many old vehicles, the driveshaft floats between the tranny and the rear-end, and can be shifted a few inches either direction. We witnessed what happens when the driver pushed the driveshaft back into place so it engaged with the spinning drivetrain.

Re: ~Guy Gets Run Over By His Own Truck~

Okay, which one of you was the guy in blue? You knew something was going down, didn't you?

But seriously, even though I drive an automatic I always engage the e-brake before shifting into park, even on flat surfaces. It's a low effort measure to help prevent such.
