So the truck has a standard or manual transmission. When you park you should put it in gear (1st gear if parked flat or pointed uphill and reverse gear if pointed downhill) AND engage the parking/emergency brake.

Either he did not engage the E-brake and the trucked popped out of gear into neutral or he had it in neutral and the E-brake wouldn’t disengage when he tried to move so he could have disconnected the E-brake unintentionally and the lurching is simply the horribly uneven weight distribution.

I’m guessing it’s the first and that it popped out of gear. Never go under your vehicle without it in gear, e-brake applied, and chocks or you’ll end up on here while some guy explains what happened while taking a shit.
