So he was against the relationship, because dowrys are illegal since 1961, & the brother thought the sister & family were going to be taken advantage of by a gold digger.
~ Even though dowry has been illegal in India since 1961, it is still common in many parts of India for a husband to seek a dowry from the wife's family and in some cases, this results in a form of extortion and violence against the wife.
