Guy on Balcony in Texas Shoots Himself in the Head

U.S. Just before 2 p.m. on Monday, June 1, Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office received a frantic 911 call.

The man on the line, later identified as 23 year old Caleb G, told dispatchers he had accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend inside their apartment at The Century complex, located at 1002 Katy Gap Road near Kingsland Boulevard and the Katy Mills Mall.

When deputies arrived, they looked inside and saw a young woman lying on the floor. She was later pronounced dead from at least one gunshot wound to her upper torso and head area.

But they couldn't get to her. Caleb had barricaded himself inside the unit, refused to surrender, and was threatening to kill himself so a standoff began.

For nearly 5 hours, crisis negotiators tried to talk him down. They reasoned with him.

Deputies say Caleb continually walked to the balcony of the apartment with a gun pointed at his own head.

Neighbors watched in horror as helicopters circled overhead and law enforcement swarmed the area.

At one point, SWAT teams deployed gas into the apartment building. Green retreated onto the balcony and then, while standing outside with no Deputies firing their weapons, he shot himself in the head. He died at the scene.

When authorities finally entered the apartment, they confirmed what Caleb had told them hours earlier. His 20 year old girlfriend was dead.

Her identity has not yet been released by authorities. Investigators are now piecing together what led to this tragedy.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Caleb had experienced the loss of more than one person close to him over the last year. He was also having relationship problems with his girlfriend.

The shooting stemmed from a verbal domestic argument that escalated into something nobody could take back.

Autopsies will be performed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to officially determine the cause and manner of both deaths. The Homicide Unit is actively investigating.
