The Gunmen Killed Traditional Imo Leaders and Security Officers.
On Friday night, gunmen killed the traditional ruler of Ochia, Paulinus Ekwueme, along with security officers in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State. The attackers ambushed the king at the border of Assa and Ochia communities after he returned from an overseas trip earlier this week. Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the king's killing, adding that security forces had been deployed to ensure the area was secure. A source said the late king had just returned from an overseas trip that week but was ambushed and killed by gunmen at the border of Assa and Ochia communities. A source familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said several security officers in the convoy were also shot dead, although he could not confirm the number of casualties. He said the king had allegedly left the community after a dispute with some people there and was on his way home when he was attacked. The source alleged that the king and security officers were burned alive after the killing, adding that Ohaji/Egbema local government area has been plunged into mourning. |
