Suzuki Gixxer Rider & Companion Were Killed by Falling Rocks on Mountain Road
Yesterday in the early morning a bike ride through the rugged mountains of Caldas, Colombia ended in tragedy when Alexander S.N, 25, was traveling along the Manizales–Medellín highway with his companion on his blue and black Suzuki Gixxer through a stretch of road, which is a vital but often dangerous road carved into the steep Colombian Andes. At a certain moment the mountain gave way and without warning, massive rocks got dislodged from the rain-soaked slopes and cascaded onto the road. One of the larger boulders struck the motorcycle with devastating force. The impact caused Alexánder to lose control instantly. Both he and his companion were thrown from the bike as it skidded across the asphalt. Despite the quick arrival of emergency responders, the injuries sustained from the falling rocks and the subsequent crash were fatal as both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. The highway remained closed for several hours as the Highway and Transportation Police secured the area and judicial units performed the necessary inspections. This stretch of road has long been a concern for travelers due to its susceptibility to landslides during Colombia's rainy seasons. https://www.elcolombiano.com/antioqu...cas-BA35425260 |
