Picture this, you are a cop and you get a call on the radio of a dangerous person on the loose with a gun. You see a person matching his description so you order him to stop. he then starts walking WITH his hands in his pocket and ignoring the cop when he did eventually notice him. Then he decides to pull up his shirt and you have the gun pointed at him… in the split second a cop has to make a life and death choice! I’m not pro cop either I despise the crooked ones. But this cop was clearly not wrong…

Unless he pulls the gun he’s not an immediate threat. Walking away from a cop with your hands in pockets in this country is not punishable by death. Cops are to only use lethal force when faced with an immediate threat or to protect others from an immediate threat. Yes the guy should have complied, I agree. Yes the guy could have had a gun hidden in his pockets, but none of those things are immediate threats to the officers life. I’m sure the cop was scared. Every person would be in that situation, but fear alone is not a sentence to execute someone. Again, we’re not far apart here in our opinions, but from my perspective I didn’t see a reason for deadly force. This is a bad shoot.

An appeals court panel on Tuesday announced it sided with a federal judge who dismissed a lawsuit against Salt Lake City and an officer who shot and killed an unarmed man outside a convenience store in 2014.

Like U.S. District Judge David Nuffer, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals’ majority opinion determined Officer Bron Cruz acted reasonably under the circumstances in shooting Dillon Taylor and reaffirmed the officer’s qualified immunity, according to the 68-page opinion.

Cruz shot Taylor twice on Aug. 11, 2014, after a person called police to report Hispanic men who “flashed a gun.” Cruz and two other officers found Taylor and two men outside a 7-Eleven near 2100 South and State Street.

When Cruz confronted Taylor and told him to stop and show his hands, Taylor didn’t respond.

Instead, video shows, the 20-year-old kept his hands in his pants and tried to walk away. When Taylor did turn around and pull out his hands, Cruz shot him twice. Taylor didn’t have a gun and was wearing headphones, attached to a phone in his pocket when he was killed.


Some cops are too jumpy, they'd be more suited to work as security guards in office complexes and banks watching security monitors.
