It's called being a sociopath. Sociopaths are completely self centered egomaniacs that view others as subhuman. They lack empathy accept if it will aid them in getting what they need or want. The do not care at all for the wants or needs of others. Again, unless it is a way to get what they need or want. They usually start with torturing and killing animals, and at some point move up to human prey. Sociopaths are not insane, as they know what they do is wrong. They are monsters.
