If the sheet was compressing his carotid artery he would be out in 30 seconds or so, if you don't think so then get two fingers, locate your carotid and press, in about 20 seconds you will go lightheaded.

It's actually not a bad way to die. Discomfort but no real pain involved. Once you try to inhale and can't get oxygen you lose consciousness.
