Authorities have arrested a man who they suspected of a public bludgeoning death and ran from the scene earlier Thursday. The Fort Myers Police Department has confirmed that a woman was killed outside the D & D convenience store.

The suspect had remained on the loose by 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The police department asked the community to be aware of the man and to call 911 immediately if anyone saw him. By late afternoon, police updated their social media saying they had arrested the suspect.

A Bangladeshi woman named Yasmin has been beaten to death with a hammer outside a Chevron gas station in Fort Myers, Florida, in a brutal and unprovoked attack that has devastated the expatriate Bangladeshi community across the United States.

Yasmin, who hailed from Lokkhipur district in Bangladesh, was an employee at the Chevron gas station and convenience store located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The gas station is reportedly owned by a fellow Bangladeshi.

She had moved to Fort Myers from Miami just a few months ago.

That morning on April 2, 2026 she had opened the station at approximately 6:17 AM, as she did every day.

According to accounts, Yasmin was reportedly in the middle of her morning prayers when a man later identified as Rolbert Joachin, 40, began banging on the locked doors of the store with a hammer, demanding to be let inside. She did not open the door.

What followed was a calculated and savage escalation.

Unable to get inside, Joachin turned his attention to Yasmin’s car parked outside the station and began smashing the windows with the same hammer.

When Yasmin stepped outside to see what was happening to her vehicle, Joachin attacked her without hesitation beating her repeatedly with the hammer and killing her on the spot.

Fort Myers Police Department responded to the scene and launched an immediate manhunt. Three nearby schools were briefly placed on limited lockdown out of caution.

By late afternoon, Joachin had been located and arrested. He currently remains in Lee County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and no motive has yet been officially released.

Yasmin leaves behind two daughters, both currently studying at university. She had only recently relocated from Miami to Fort Myers, hoping to build a new chapter for herself and her family.
