The whole back end of a forklift is a solid metal block weighing tons. It's to counterract the weight of the load. I used to drive one years ago and I've parked it in the yard to go on my lunch. Half an hour later I came out to finf the back wheels had sunk through the tarmac up to the axles - there is so much weight concentrated into such a small space. They often weigh more than a bus. Poor woman didn't stand a chance
