Re: Family Member Films 27 Year Old Man Drowning in a Pond Near a Dam in a Park
For the record, here is why this is clearly drowning: 1. It is likely that his man intended to swim from shore to the dock, so he could mount the dock and be the center of attention. 2. The video started up as this man was nearing the dock in an exhausted state due to an extremely inefficient stroke. His stroke is deplorable. His muscles were weak and burning. He was winded to the point of panting. This happens when you "swim" for as little as one minute using an inefficient stroke. 3. In this diminished physical state, he was exerting all energy to keep his head above water so he could continue panting for air. When this happens, people are very panicked because the can sense that they no longer have the energy to stay above water. In this panicked state, a person also loses the ability to think logically. 4. A couple feet from the dock, his head goes under the first time in the drowning sequence. Depending on his motor control, he either gulps a lungful of water, or his windpipe automatically shuts. Either way, he gets zero oxygen while his body needs to literally pant. At this point, he begins to pass out. And remember, lungs must exhale before they can inhale, and he is likely too panicked to exhale. This is why he will get no more oxygen after his head goes under water this first time. 5. In the next precious seconds, his head continues to submerge, meaning he continues to take in no more oxygen. Any time his head is above water, he is likely exhaling if anything at all. His muscles have now lost all strength. That is why he cannot grip onto the dock. You can sense he is in disbelief that he cannot grip the dock because he lunges several times to do so. The dock was supposed to be his easy, lifesaving move! Except for one problem: No muscle function due to lack of oxygen. 6. As his hands are reflexively fumbling for a grip on the dock, his brain is passing out due to no oxygen. 7. After this point, the victim makes a few more reflexive attempts to get his head above water, but he is unable to breath anymore, and ultimately submerges. |

And those watching/filming never imagined for a moment that he wouldn't be able to hold on to it, I bet.

Re: Family Member Films 27 Year Old Man Drowning in a Pond Near a Dam in a Park
This was interesting because I always assumed that when someone drowning was near something they could grab to keep them afloat they'd just DO IT and the day was saved. But here the guy was maybe in such a state of panic and terror all he could do was just flail and continue to sink even though salvation was literally within his grasp. Also, how can a brazilian guy not know how to swim? Aren't they going to the beach and ogling chicks in thongs all day? Maybe he had his heart attack first and that prevented him from grabbing and holding on? |
