It happens.

Something as simple as a sneeze at a critical moment can cause a drowning. A simple involuntary gasp, or an exhale or cramp can cause anyone even good swimmers to sink like a rock. No air in lungs, no floating to surface for next breath.

Looks like he had a seizure of some sort. Clearly he could swim if he got out there and he was able to grasp the top of woods numerous times. I wonder if there were overgrown weeds tangling him up. That’s what happened when I was at my town lake. The guy was there one minute, gone the next. There were tons of people in the water and no one even noticed. He was in shallow water but got caught up in overgrowth.

The sign states that bathing is prohibited, not swimming. They're not going to put a raft out there and tell people that they can't swim.

It's probably forbidden for a reason. Most likely a crazy undertow that can't be seen from the surface. It looks as if he his struggling against the current. Or that chick from "the ring" grabbed his ankle???

Good point. It's really tragic when it becomes a freak accident and we never fully know the reason. My friend's grandfather nearly drowned to death after getting a severe leg cramp while swimming.
