Actually lane splitting is illegal everywhere in the U.S., including California. What is legal in CA is lane filtering. lane splitting = riding between moving vehicles lane filtering = riding between stopped vehicles Splitting is illegal for obvious reasons... But filtering is now legal in CA because it helps cut down on heavy traffic. |

Ah, it seems you're correct about the legality of it in CA... I've always been told otherwise by fellow riders and I guess I never bothered to confirm it myself. As for the use of "filtering" vs. "splitting", notice it says: Myself and most others who actually ride (at least where I live, which is the eastern shore of the U.S.) go by these terms to differentiate between the two. Usually when saying "I don't lane split, but I do filter." Anyway, judging by the makes of the vehicles and the size/shape of the tags, I think this occurred outside the U.S. |
