The gunman is probably nervous/jacked-up already from adrenaline, he notices movement and there's no telling how he would react. He might even think you're trying to pull a weapon in defense.

It's all situational of course and pure speculation, but I would have just stayed put in that case.

I'm in a part of Houston where that shit happens all the time. Lets just say life is cheap and to the shitheads at the cantina, if the fucker did not try to kill you, why bother running, it's not your fight and there is no thing as self defense if it was not your fight.
