Ecuador. Environmental and risk management analyst Jeffry S.F.I, 27, on Thursday afternoon, was parked inside his vehicle waiting to conduct a routine work inspection.

A double-cabin pick-up truck blocked his path and armed hitmen opened fire. Jeffry escaped the car and can be seen running to save his life but one gunman dressed in a red shirt pursued him on foot and shot him multiple times on the sidewalk. Police recovered 13 spent 9mm bullet casings from the scene.

Yesterday the National Police arrested 22-year-old Emerson S.T.M. during a raid. He matches the physical description of the hitman caught on security cameras and has been jailed. The getaway vehicle was also found abandoned.

While Jeffry had no criminal record, the Police are heavily investigating family ties as the motive. He was identified as the nephew of Manuel Antonio Figueroa Villamar, alias Papelito, an alleged major financier for the dominant Los Lobos criminal gang.

Authorities believe the execution may be a retaliatory cartel hit targeting his family circle.

This ambush is the second assassination of a city official in just over a month. On July 2, Jeffry's brother-in-law, Christian R.C.P, an IT analyst for the municipality, was also gunned down right outside the city hall building.
