Re: England 1985 - Stadium on Fire - 56 Dead
Most of the rear exits led to padlocked fire exits were most died. One retired mill worker made his way to the pitch, but was walking about on fire from head to foot. People smothered him to extinguish the flames, but he later died in hospital. |

Re: England 1985 - Stadium on Fire - 56 Dead
I remember watching this live on the TV and just being stunned as it unfolded before your eyes.... when the live pictures of the dazed man who was on fire came up we couldn't believe what we where seeing. He and his clothing had become so super heated he burst into flames, he wasn't the only one there where a couple of Policemen who suffered bad burns when they used their coats to shield themselves and rescue those who had become so disorientated they had but seconds left to live also one of the people who was just in front in the man who erupted in flame on camera had the same happen to him as he went off camera but he was in the crowd and they just jumped him and smothered the flames....there where some very brave people that day, some of whom where terribly injured saving others...most those injured saving others where the policemen who repeatedly went back even though they could feel their clothes burning. As one said, how could I live injury free knowing I could have saved several lives.
