My dad used to do the same thing when he was driving us - taking his eyes off the road to stare at random shit for a few seconds. It drove me crazy. I'm amazed he didn't kill us all.

That's what happens when you drive like an Asian. Why the hell was he staring to the side for so long instead of concentraring on the road? Asian people already have it very hard with their narrow visual angle to impair it even further by looking to the side. The car came from the opposite side he was staring at and he didn't have any chance to see it coming. He didn't keep looking forward while driving, it is his fault! |

A seatbelt going diagonally works for front and rear collisions only, in a side crash the body slips to the side effortlessly, as is shown in this video. It's the reason race cars have a five point harness. |
