Eight people have been killed in the US state of Texas after a car struck a group at a bus stop near a migrant centre.

The incident happened in the city of Brownsville near the Mexican border at about 08:30 local time on Sunday.

At least ten other people were been injured, some of them critically.

The city bus stop is across the street from the shelter and is not marked. There was no bench, and people waiting there were sitting along the curb. According to the shelter's director, most of the victims were Venezuelan men.

The driver has been arrested and charged with reckless driving. Police didn’t immediately know the drivers’ name or age.

While police have not confirmed it, the crash appeared to be intentional. According to an eyewitness:

"It was sudden. A woman drove by and told us to leave the area. We started to leave, and in a second the driver came up and was pointing at us, cursing, calling us things like, 'Motherfucker' and other things I didn’t understand. When he drove up, he stepped on the gas. Full force. He passed over me."

The driver has also been taken to hospital for treatment and is undergoing drug and alcohol tests, police told US media.

EDIT The driver, 34-year-old George Alvarez, has been charged with eight counts of manslaughter, and 10 counts of aggravated assault, and investigators are working to determine if the crash was intentional.

I agree. Immigrant or no immigrant issue—these people were just sitting there minding their own business. Except for a select few, no human deserves this regardless of how they got here. Well, it looks like Texas being so liberal with the executions will be busy this year. I hope people here on DR will be decent. :
