Sorry, but it's not the same. The accents you note from English-speaking locales are the result of geographic isolation in conjunction with evolving aural processing and vocal articulation errors. The accents you note from non-English-speaking locales are the result of interference from the phonological and acoustic-phonetic characteristics of a speaker's native language. On the other hand, this guy's "accent" is the result of poor education and intentional cultural segregation. Furthermore, it's not just an "accent" issue. It's also vocabulary, syntax, and grammar issues. His region's leaders, teachers, and broadcasters do not talk that way. He has plenty of available exemplars through whom to acquire the intelligible English dialect advanced by his society. He just doesn't want to belong to that society. Frankly, attempts to validate such illiteracy hurt those pondering whether speaking proper English warrants the effort. |
