MONROE, La. (KNOE) -Family members have identified the victims fatally shot at Parkview Apartments on Tuesday morning.

The victims were identified as Oyah Smith and Lamarcus Plater. Ouachita Parish Police jurors said they feel it’s time to hold the complex accountable to make it safer for tenants.

“Lamarcus is one of the friendliest cousins you probably could ever meet and ask for. And give you the shirt off his back,” said Ouachita Police Juror Lonnie Hudson.

Hudson said he was devastated to hear of his cousin’s death. He said Parkview is notorious for violent crimes and police need to step up its security presence.(BUT BLACK LIVES MATTER AND DEFUND THE POLICE)


“Right now we need to focus on the oversight and how we can correct this and see what we can do moving forward from today,” said Hudson.

Ouachita Parish police juror Michael Thompson’s grandmother lives at the complex. He said people in leadership also need to be held accountable.

“Something needs to be done there and I believe it starts at the top. It’s gonna have to start with the council. Or whomever. To make sure that they hold that apartment complex accountable for things that’s happening in that area,’ said Thompson.

Hudson said he hopes this will open a dialogue for families to discuss gun violence.

“Guns don’t kill people. People kill people. We got to break it down to them that this type of gun violence and crime in our community has got to stop.”

As such, police are looking to identify possible suspects in the case. Police are asking anyone with information on this shooting to give them the information needed to help close this case.

It seems to break down like this:We are Fu**ed as a nation.
We want a stronger presence by law enforcement to get a hold on crime, but we prosecute the ones we hire to enforce the law for enforcing those laws. Nice. Soon, cops are going to just shrug off the crimes being perpetrated by those whose lives are so valued, because they don't want to go to prison for being cops and doing their jobs. It will be interesting to see how this all settles out. I'm glad I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere.
