Modern loads for 9mm, from say CorBon or SuperVel, move a 119 gr slug out of the muzzle at around 1150 fps. They are rated approx 93% one-shot-stop.

There are some 90gr .380 ACP's that are quite close to that figure as well. It may well have been a .380 in question here.

Either way, 'stopping power' is a Hollywood term that doesn't apply to modern self-defense loads. Just ask this sucker puncher.
