Sad to see her that way. The DR is one of the worst places to be in public. If you drive, it is dangerous due to the many unsafe trucks and the drivers who are very inexperienced. If you ride a car or a bike, your chances of getting kill are very high. When I lived in the DR, I saw so many accidents. Once I saw an American almost getting kill by both the mob and an individual that had nothing to do with the accident. At the end of the story, the American was extorted by the local police for the accident in which the American was the victim. Locals do not care and will take it on the foreign if they see there is money to be gained.

I've been to the DR...Sheesh! The traffic is crazy. I almost ran over a person on a Scooter too times to count.
