Seems unlikely that he knew he was going to die. As another poster pointed out, there was at least a couple of moments he could've easily moved to disarm the shooter and didn't take them. Probably assumed it was a simple robbery and then WHOOPS WHATS THAT A BULLET IN MY MOUF
