Re: Died from Cancer

What was with the random dremel tool sitting on that chair above the gun? Weird. Also, if it was cancer, the person didn't seem to give a shit, seeing that there were fresh cigarette butts in the ash tray.

What a disgusting house. Reminded me of that Hoarders show from a few years back.

Re: Died from Cancer

Damn... listen for the Sheriff's smoker's cough right at the very end. Sounds like he's next on the list of bleed out cancer victims!

Re: Died from Cancer

Many are complaining about the general disrepair of the household. I would like to be specific about a few things:

1) Only one cigarette in the ashtray adjacent to the apparent start of the death throes; even if he was an avid smoker, he at least kept his ashtrays clean;

2) Despite the alleged alcoholism of the victim, few if any alcohol containers were found in the viewable area;

3) Most of the blood was in the toilet; everything else that was cough-worthy-amounts on the way to the pot;

4) This man died a horrible death with nobody other than his landlord to give a moment's lament for him.

Few, if any of of us, would want to die in this manner. Go ahead, thirteen-year-olds-posing-as-elders. Comment on that, if you will.

Re: Died from Cancer

If he was an alcoholic, with that much sudden blood loss it is very possible he had a ruptured esophageal varices. These are large abnormally dialated blood vessels in the esophagus. In alcoholics they are a result of end stage liver disease. The liver disease causes increased venous pressure in the large veins leading into the liver because the liver has been replaced by scar tissue (cirrhosis). This means blood can't get through the liver so it backs up causing dialation and ultimately weakening of upstream blood vessels. These vessels are very prone to rupture especially from forceful coughing or vomiting, both of which would have been likely given his history. If he had cancer he would be more prone to hemorrhage because cancer can cause problems with the blood clotting system. Also alcoholics are prone to prolonged bleeding because of vitamin k deficiency. This death scenario is VERY common in alcoholics. I knew those 4 years of medical school and 3 years of residency would pay off some day.

Re: Died from Cancer

Ok that blood was probably rectal. When I took a coroner's class we saw pictures that were worse than this one from a gentleman who, unknown to him, colon cancer. Thought he had to shit, sat down on the toilet, and his colon ruptured and he bled to death on the floor of the bathroom.

Re: Died from Cancer

While your oncological facts are accurate, this case is different...
this guy is confirmed to have died from lung cancer.
It is possible to have an established diagnosis of lung cancer but to also die from complications from another disease, in this case complications of alcoholism. It is also quite possible a large tumor could have eroded into a major blood vessel and caused massive hemorrhage as well. I was just proposing an alternate theory and of course it could be incorrect.

Re: Died from Cancer

I respect that point of view...

And thanks for not being one of these other armchair-pathologists who show up on the third page of the thread, only to make an ass of themselves by ridiculing the guy's house and by diagnosing the death as a "suicide," regardless of the aforementioned facts.
Thanks for understanding

Re: Died from Cancer

Almost certainly is a result of esophageal varices. Ery common among alcoholics and can be a complication of cancer as well. Basically the esophagus vessels burst with exanguination as result.
