Decapitated Body Floating in the Open Sea

A group of fishermen reported on Friday afternoon the discovery of a lifeless body floating in the open sea off the coast of the General Villamil Playas canton, Ecuador. According to the fishermen who made the sighting, the human body was decapitated.

After receiving the alert, personnel from the Ecuadorian Navy activated a search and rescue protocol to locate the body, which was drifting away from the shore due to ocean currents.

After 4:00 p.m., the patrol boat managed to intercept the remains and transport them to the dock for the corresponding legal procedures.

Forensic and National Directorate of Specialized Investigations agents went to the site to recover the body.

Due to the condition in which it was found and the effects of the water, authorities indicated that it was not possible to immediately determine the identity or approximate age of the victim.

The body was taken to the Guayaquil Forensic Center, where an autopsy will be performed and genetic or fingerprint profiles will be sought for identification.

The National Police are investigating whether this incident is related to reports of missing persons while fishing or to violent incidents that have occurred in nearby coastal areas in recent days.
