I was thinking the same, but it's entirely possible he was attacked at 23:45 and was officially pronounced dead fifteen minutes later, which would technically be the following day.

Surprised he stayed conscious as long as he did. Pure adrenaline keeping him awake even after 15 seconds bleeding out hard. The body's survival skills are crazy.
