Sorry - but even having read the OP's opinion, I fail to see why the police are wrong in this engagement.
The man said bluntly that he would shoot the dog, he pretended to have a weapon, he refused to raise his arms and when the dog came he threw an object - with tensions already high that was a stupid stupid move, although maybe reflexive.
The only injustice I feel here was the killing of the dog. Totally against any form of sense

First off if this idiot had just done what the police said none of this would have happened. Second, he wasn't pleading for the dogs to be taken away he was demanding it and threatening to shoot and bragging about his gun with 13 shots. Third, the shooting did not start until he raised his hand with whatever he was holding. If the cops had done what this guy was telling them to do and then he had ended up hurting an innocent bystander somehow people would be blasting the cops for not taking him down. For all of you criticizing the police, i'd like to see how you react when a guy who keeps saying he has a gun raises his hand towards you. Would you hesitate and wait to make sure it was really a gun? Hell no! You would do what anyone else would do, you'd protect yourself with by taking the bastard down.

OK so this that not picking any fucking sides here but what I question is 81+ rounds fired????? WTF!! In a situation like that there should have been a designated marksman to take the shot or shots. Maybe 3 but 81??? R U Fucking kidding me Fire them all and charge them!! Cops like this make good cops look like shit!!

As a cop, I CAN vouch for these guys, they were totally in the right. They warned him on several occasions to drop the gun and come peacefully lest they release the dog.
I've had my fair share of being able to work with the K9 unit, and what they did is EXACTLY by the book. He wasnt about to go, he had no hostage, he said for them to back off. How do we know what's going to happen when we back off? Its not something that we do when we're on a stand-off like that. He could've put the gun down, he didn't, he had a warning, he didnt take it.
He pulled the gun out and the way he pulled it out looked like he was getting ready to shoot (Even though he was probably too hyped on adrenaline and stumbled with the gun hense the dropping of it). I dont know about you, OP, but I know for a fact, if someone tells me they're going to pull a gun out and shoot everything if the dog is released, Im going to shoot at him as soon as he gets ready to fire.


OP if you dont like the way cops do thing, become a cop, do it YOUR way.

It's easy to sit there and bash cops from your computer. First off Compton is a bad area so they can't take any chances. And also, the guy SAID HE HAD A GUN. What should the cops say? Oh he probably is lying, let's negotiate. What if the fucker did have a gun? The cops couldn't see what he was holding. It's just so easy to sit behind a computer screen, see a shoddy video and say "man fuck the cops, those pigs." The shitty cops in this world are the suburban cops who's biggest part of their career is a teenage drug bust or a DUI. Cops in Philly, Compton, or any other bad area have to be the badasses who aren't afraid to shoot the fuck out of someone who poses a threat.
