Re: David Dorn Death Video
Words do not live in dictionaries; they live in the mind. However, I think you may be missing the point. AAVE is not a different name for Ebonics. They are linguistically different and recognize different originations for types, patterns, and rhythm of speech seen in each. While similar, AAVE recognizes a recurrent combination of racial segregation and inferior educational opportunities preventing many black Americans from adopting speech patterns associated with Americans of European ancestry. As a result, generations of white citizens maligned or mocked speakers of AAVE, casting doubt on their intelligence and making their distinctive speaking patterns the object of racist ridicule. We have conducted studies that show strong evidence that the zip code (what kind of neighborhood) you live in will have a greater impact on your education level, income, and over all life expectancy than any other fact you can measure. AAVE was developed to try and bridge the language gap created when low income areas have little to no education funding. Like I said Spanglish is similar. Believe or not I am a white guy that speaks Spanish and people still look at me as if I am stupid when I am translating. To some English = smartest/Bestest |
