The accident occurred on January 10 at 7 p.m. on the 515th kilometer of the Kola highway in the Kondopoga district of Karelia. The 32-year-old driver of the Skoda Octavia car drove into the oncoming traffic lane and collided with a Kamaz truck. The accident killed the driver of the car and 3 of its passengers: two men 25 and 35 years old and a 26-year-old girl.

A resident of Kandalaksha, witnessed the incident. He filmed the first minutes after the accident with a mobile phone camera. The man says:

"I witnessed a terrible accident. On the "Girvas" lapel, the driver of the car, moving towards St. Petersburg, tried to bypass the truck ahead in a closed turn, after which, without having time to complete the maneuver, drove into the oncoming Kamaz. Two without signs of life and two more were badly injured. Think before you overtake at the corners!"

The dead were teachers of the St. Petersburg school of jazz dance Summertime Swing, V. L., D. K., V. S., & A. K.
